Equilon Enterprises LLC, Motiva Enterprises LLC, Equiva Services LLC, and Equiva Trading are part of an alliance that was formed by Shell Oil Company, Texaco Inc., and Saudi Aramco.  This alliance was formed in order to combine major elements of their U.S. marketing and refining operations.

Equilon Enterprises refines and markets gasoline and other petroleum products under both the Shell and Texaco brand names more than 30 states, providing products to over 9,900 Shell and Texaco retail outlets.  Equilon Enterprises is headquartered in Houston, Texas, and is estimated to be one of the largest retail gasoline marketers in the U.S. as well as one of the largest refiners.  Equilon Enterprises has a strong market share nationally with particular presence in its Western-Midwestern states.  The company’s assets include five refineries; numerous lubricant plants; ownership or partial interest in more than 50 product terminals; and operate or own an interest in approximately 30,000 miles of pipeline.

Motiva Enterprises is a similar joint venture comprised by Shell, Texaco, and Saudi Aramco.  Headquartered in Houston, Texas, Motiva Enterprises combines major elements of the companies Eastern and Gulf Coast U.S. petroleum refining and marketing businesses. 

Motiva Enterprises refines and markets gasoline and other petroleum products under both the Shell and Texaco names in more than 25 states and the District of Columbia, providing products to about 14,600 Shell and Texaco branded retail outlets across the U.S.  Motiva Enterprises company assets also include 4 refineries that are capable of refining approximately 825,000 barrels per day with ownership or partial interest in 49 product terminals. 

Equiva Services, based in Houston, Texas, is the shared services company that is jointly owned by Equilon Enterprises and Motiva Enterprises.  It now supports the Alliance Companies with a comprehensive range of cost effective, demand based services.

Equiva Trading Company is a general partnership, which serves as the trading unit for Equilon Enterprises and Motiva Enterprises that has offices in Houston, Texas (headquarters); Burbank, California; and Calgary, Canada.  Equiva Trading Company will buy and sell more than 7 million barrels of hydrocarbons per day in physical markets, making it one of the largest petroleum supply organizations in the world.  Specific businesses include acquisition; sales and trades of domestic crude oil and products; lease crude oil acquisition and marketing; asphalt marketing and sales; marine chartering; and risk management support and services.

Equiva Trading International looks for crude oil and product opportunities in the international marketplace.  The Risk Services group finds new ways to help the alliance companies’ business units manage their price exposure to market variations.  The Marine Department provides a vessel chartering service in support of the trading activity for waterborne systems and ensures the integrity of the vessels.  Equiva Trading Company also has a substantial trading-for-profit business, which includes the buying and selling of crude oil, finished products and feedstocks for profit, as well as trading oil futures.
